Bacon. Just the word makes me salivate. I love bacon so much I wonder if it’s indicative of something else in my life!! I’m so thankful that I’m not intolerant of red meat, because life without bacon would be painful [for me]. I’m here today to dispel a myth and an untruth that has been perpetrated in social media for far too long.
First of all, I recommend cooking bacon in the oven. Why? Well for one thing, it’s cleaner. Frying bacon on the stove is messy. There’s no way around it. There’s no short cut; it’s messy, and it is what it is. BUT, if you put those same bacon slices on a baking sheet in a 375-400 degree oven, you will get perfect bacon every time. If you like it a little soft, you got it! Like it crispy? You got it.
Here’s where the myth comes in. I have seen so many times that it only takes “15-20 minutes” to make bacon in the oven. That, my friends, is a lie. The only way you can remove bacon from the oven in 15 minutes is if you’d like it to be partially raw. If that’s your thing, then do you Boo! 15 minutes is all you need. For the rest of us who like to eat bacon that is fully cooked, you will need at least a full 30 minutes. There. I said it. It takes 30 minutes minimum. I cook my bacon on 375 and never have a problem. Sometimes I flip the bacon during the last 7-10 minutes. But by and large, 30 minutes and you’re good. If you want it extra crispy, give it 5-7 additional minutes. If you want it soft but done, maybe 25 minutes will be enough. But for goodness sake, stop this “15 minute” nonsense. Y’all gone get sick!! That’s all for today. Love y’all
