Meet Chef Lorious
California raised, Alabama rooted—and both places have a seat at my table.
Hi, I’m Lori, also known as Chef Lorious. I’m from California, with family roots in Alabama, and both places have a seat at my table. I’m probably equal parts California and Alabama—and my cooking reflects that. I call it Calibama: a little California freshness and creativity mixed with the Southern comfort and hospitality that helped shape me.
I came from a home and a family full of love. My father talked about food as a way of showing someone you love them, and that has stayed with me. My family taught me that food has the power to bring people together, make someone feel cared for, and turn an ordinary day into a memory. A meal can be a welcome, a celebration, or a way of saying “I love you” without ever speaking the words.
Church and Sunday dinners were part of that education, too. As a little girl, I watched the church mothers cook with wide eyes, taking it all in. They taught me so much about feeding people with both good food and generosity. There was care in what they cooked and how they served it, and that spirit still influences what I bring to my own table.
Here, you’ll find that Calibama spirit in the recipes I share, along with practical tips and inspiration for home and everyday living. I want to help you feel more comfortable in the kitchen, welcome people into your home, and enjoy everyday life. And because faith is part of my life, you’ll find a little encouragement along the way.
