Moving On

Trusting God through the uncertainty of a difficult change.

Moving on is hard. Moving forward can be difficult. Moving past things is challenging.

A few years ago my husband and I made one of the toughest decisions of our married life. We had to move on from something that was very near and dear to our hearts. We didn’t make the decision from our emotions or from a place of frustration. We prayed about it—individually, then collectively, then individually…again. It was such a difficult decision to make that we wanted to be sure we were following God’s direction and timing for our lives.

Here’s the interesting parts. The situation had changed drastically from what it once was. Change is good, but not all change is of God. We had come to realize that the direction and mindset of a particular group of people was no longer consistent with what God had placed in our hearts. Our love and desire for His will was in conflict with decision makers.

But at the same time, we had some great relationships in place. Some really good friends, who became like family, and folks we had just grown to love.

It would have been so much easier to try to adjust who we were called so we could “fit in”. Others around us did that. They adjusted and silenced the call of God to maintain position and influence. But we couldn’t do that. At the end of the day, we are accountable to HIM.

So with hurt hearts and tears, we did what we knew we had to do. And can I tell you something. It was scary!!!! Part of the scary was the unknown. Even if a situation is far from ideal, at least you know what it is. But choosing to leave something can be frightening because you don’t know what you’re getting into.

But ah…there’s faith. When you know God has told you to do something, and you don’t understand it, but you do it anyway, that’s faith. The other side of the change has been beautiful. Our hearts are free. The burden of silencing His calling for the comfort of others is gone. It’s refreshing and energizing.

Now don’t get me wrong, I do miss some of the relationships. I learned that some of them were never real to begin with…but I also learned that some were truly genuine. I’m thankful for both.

Why am I sharing this? Because I want you to know that while change is difficult, God is faithful to what He has spoken to you. Trust what He has said to you. Trust what He has put in your heart. I PROMISE YOU He will come through. He’s not a liar and He never changes His mind about you.

Pray. Surrender. Watch God work!
