Chocolate Chip Scones

Servings 16 scones

Ingredients
  

For the scones

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2/3 cups sugar
  • 2 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup butter, cold
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the vanilla glaze

  • 1 - 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 - 5 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cut in the butter and mix with your hands until the mixture is like small peas/crumbs.
  • In a small bowl, combine the egg, whipping cream and vanilla extract. Mix well and add to the dry ingredients.
  • Combine the wet and dry ingredients together well. Incorporate chocolate chips into the mixture.
  • Place the dough on a floured surface and lightly knead the dough to bring it together. You will also need flour on your hands.
  • Roll out the dough to approximately 1 - 2 inches thick. Cut into desired shapes.
  • Bake scones on a baking sheet for 15 - 18 minutes.

For the vanilla glaze

  • Add heavy cream to the powdered sugar 1 - 2 tablespoons at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  • Add in vanilla.
  • Allow the scones to cool completely before glazing.
